The traditional weapon of the highland clansman, this sword has sown fear into the hearts of Englishmen for centuries. Its long, two-edged blade and distinctive basket hilt, when combined with targe and dirk has proven to be more than a match for enemy soldiers on battlefields the world over.

Now Cold Steel® has chosen to make our own replica of this famous weapon. Our double-edged blade is hand forged and beautifully polished with triple fullers. The stout basket hilt is made of blued steel with a wood grip covered in samé (ray skin) and decoratively wrapped in wire. Each broadsword will pass the stringent British Proof test and comes with a wood and leather scabbard that's complemented by blued steel chape and throat.

This is a nice weapon;however, please note that the blade comes sharpened only from the midpoint of the blade to the tip of the weapon. This may play a role in your decision to purchase this weapon when comparing this to other swords.

O boy, you are gonna love this one! I bought mine because the cheap replicas looked, well, cheap. When it arived I was not disapointed. While it is a replica of a later sword, it does not look out of place in a mid 1700's reenactment. I did take the tassel off. The bonus is that it is a very well made sword that will stand up to hard use without breaking the bank.

This weapon is sharpened from the midpoint to the point only. The lower half of the blade is not sharp. This may or may not play a role in your choice of a sword purchase depending on the reason for your purchase, thus I have felt the need to point this out to consumers.

The weapon is overall a nice blade and the fact that the lower half is not sharp encourages a more technical approach to use of the weapon.
