Got Bamboo?

Bamboo

Cold Steel, Inc., will be making a DVD in the coming weeks that will demonstrate the sharpness of some of our machete blades. The demonstration is based on a traditional edge testing technique from Asia, where freshly cut, green bamboo is cut with a single stroke of the blade (see the attached image). The height of the Bamboo is not an issue. What we are looking for is the thickness in diameter (somewhere between 2 to 4 inches). As you can see in the image, the stalk is cut down to about 6 feet and propped vertically for the demonstration.

The important thing is that the Bamboo be harvested the day of the shoot because if it dries out it becomes too brittle and hard for this kind of demo. Right now, we are planning to shoot our DVD in mid July, but a firm date has not been finalized.

We will pay $10 per stalk and we would need to harvest about 12 to 15 stocks for the shoot. We would need to have the bamboo be as fresh and green as possible, so it would have to be harvested on the day we are filming, early in the morning (6:30-7:00 am). We would send a small crew out to harvest the stalks so no work would be required.

It is important that the bamboo be on your property and that you own it. Also, you need to live relatively close to Ventura, California (i.e. not farther than 20 miles away). So, if you've got 12 to 15 stalks of bamboo you can part with and want to make some easy money let us know. If you can, please send a photo of the bamboo.
