Mark Sullivan : Death By The Ton

Mark Sullivan : Death By The Ton

As the name implies, Death by the TON is jammed full of big animals bitting the dust, many at very close range. Filmed over the past four years in Tanzania, East Africa with Professional Hunter Mark Sullivan, this movie features incredible life and death action including what many believe is the finest rogue bull hippo charge ever recorded. If we believe that a picture is worth a thousand words, then the front cover photo says it all. Three and a half tons of blood and guts charging at top speed with only one thing on his mind...to kill me and my client utterly dead. All I can say, thank goodness for big bullets and brave clients.

In addition to the hippo charge there are two more amazing hunts for monster rogue bull hippo, hunted out of the water and on dry ground; the way they should be hunted, as well as five hunts for big, old Cape buffalo bulls. Along with these eight featured hunts I have also put together the most remarkable collection of hi-lites lasting 11 minutes and containing over 95 gun shots. Jam-packed into this incredible sequence are 40 big bull buffalo and a half-dozen massive rogue bull hippo shot on camera, up-close and in your face. This unbelievable footage by itself is worth the purchase price of the movie.

This movie, more than anything, demonstrates my manner and method of hunting dangerous game. Rather than shooting the great and noble warrior into oblivion from a safe distance, my clients and I choose instead to walk up and let the animal decide how he is going to die. It is the unknown, a by-product of my style of hunting, that generates almost uncontrolable excitment, often placing me and my clients in the throes of death. Deliberately walking into the face of death, testing our mettle around every corner, and purposely putting ourselves in harms way is what makes my movies the most acclaimed and sometimes, most misunderstood movies on the planet. Whether you love them or hate them, does not change the fact they are real. One misplaced bullet, one negative thought at the wrong time, a primer failing to ignite the powder charge and certain death is sure to follow. But that, my friends, is the price my clients and I are willing to pay to hunt dangerous game the way it is meant to be hunted, on equal footing with Africa's most dangerous game.

In this movie you will see me hunting with a number of fine double rifles. My favorite, of course, is the .600 Nitro Express shooting 900 grain fist-sized bullets at 2,000 feet per second. I also use a beautiful Charles Osborn .577 (750 grain bullets) and a .500 Nitro Express (570 grain bullets) made by William Evans of London. I know that with any of these bone-crunching doubles in my hands I am only limited in what I can do by my imagination which explains why my movies are what they are; the most exciting hunting movies in the world. And unlike others, I am not afraid to walk up and face death. Like I have always said, "To confront these great and noble warriors on their own turf is the most extraordinary life and death hunting I know...providing you are willing to put yourself in harms way!"
